I have a Marineland Hex 5-Gallon Tank with one Betta in it at all times. These filters work beautifully and they're easy to install. I used to just put pieces of cut up sponge in the filter to save a little money, but I found the water would turn cloudy and algae would grow much faster after each water change. I replace my filter once a month, and prefer to use some of the filter media from a previous use so I'm not introducing a new filter by itself. I cut off the blue top of the filter and place it on top of the new filter. Been doing this for months with no issues. Will continue to buy for my aquarium.

What can one say about Marineland carts and filters. The price is only fair if/when you subscribe or use them as add on items. Even with that I can get them cheaper from 1 other source. However, this is the way to go unless I am needing a good bit of supplies. I have been in the industry for.. well for just a WHOLE bunch a years lol.. Been using Marineland products for almost that same amount of time. There are several companies who have came out with DIY filter cart builds.. STICK WITH THE ORIGINAL.. The money you save on all but one of the DIY filters is not worth the mess and hassle.

Marineland cartridges are very easy to use. They leave the tanks clean and the fish happy. I use several different sizes for my several tanks. This review is for the size Z. I have a 5 gal hex and the cartridge cleans the tank effectively. It is a no mess no fuss filter set up. One just lifts out the dirty cartridge and inserts the new cartridge.I have fish, live plants, and snails in the tank. The tank needs a filtration system to remove the fish and snail pollution for lack of a better word. The water remains balanced with their use. So much easier to use than other types where one has to measure charcoal, filter floss, and etc. I suppose I shouldn't but I extend the life of them a bit by rinsing them out in between using a new filter. The charcoal isn't the same after the first use, but the filtration of particles remains good. I find them actually a lot less money to use than a regular charcoal, and filter media filter to use.

I purchased Marineland Rite-Size Z Filter Cartridges. They work really well in our 5 gallon MarineLand Portrait Glass LED Aquarium. Keeps crystal clear water while using it. Have to rinse them really well before placing in the tank. Each cartridge last about 3 weeks…… Update: Purchased a second time!!! Great filters, fast shipping as always. Will buy again from this seller.

If you have the filter-pump that these fit in you will be grateful. These do a great job and they are SO EASY to change. You literally just pull the whole filter out, throw it away and slide in a new one. It comes with the carbon already inside it, so no need to assemble a filter, pour carbon in it and all that. EASY EASY !! Worth the price.

I use these for my 3 5-gal tanks. I replace it every 30 days. Each of my tanks only have 1 Betta each. I use this in addition to a white media to filter ammonia. If your tanks are heavily stocked or you feed your fish a lot, you may need to rinse in between replacements or replace sooner than 30 days.

These are nice. I almost want to give them a four star rating. But that's not fair. Reason being, is that since I purchased these I decided to place some live aquatic anubias plants in my 5 gallon Marineland fish tank. Since these cartridges have charcoal they can neutralize the plant fertilizers that I add to the water. But it wouldn't be right of me to take away a star just because I decided to change my setup. I simply cut a two inch slit into these floss and remove the charcoal. I've also been stuffing these filters with a little extra pond floss for some extra filtering power. Once I am done with this pack of cartridges I think I will just stick with the pond filtering floss. But if I didn't want to have live aquatic plants I would continue to get this product. It is quite good at keeping the water crystal clear. I rinse it out every week and replace it once a month.

Our fish loves the air he breathes with this fancy filter. He has been alive for 5 years and this is the only filter we have used. Thank you Marineland for this amazing filter and for the long life it has given our old fish, Reggie.

If you have a five gallon hex, this is the only filter selection you get. The length of effectiveness depends on the condition of your tank, number of fish you keep, etc. If you have a light tank load, you can rinse these at least one time and reuse. I am able to rinse after two weeks and replace after roughly four to six weeks. Use it much beyond that and you just make your maintenance and water changes more of a workload. As a point of reference I am doing partial water changes two or three times a week and am able to keep very clear water. Marineland is decent product line and I have had no troubles with these filters. I use in conjunction with a biowheel, which is crucial to maintaining healthy condition of your water. My only "con" is that you can only purchase in quantities of one or three. I wish there were a discount economy pack say of ten or twelve. Finding these in stock at your local store could be hit or miss over buying them through amazon. Keep your eye on the prices as I have seen them fluctuate. You should be able to get the three pack for eight or nine dollars if you get it at the right time. I've seen them go for over $11 for the same thing so if you get a good price and have more than one tank or just want to stock up and not worry about reordering, get them at the better price while you can.

The Emperor Filters are the Best Quality, and effective out there. There are 3 models with bio-wheels, and take Size E Cart rages. I use the Model 400 for my 45 gal frag tank, with up to 6 Alligator Snapping turtle hatchlings at a time. Most will argue that the 400 is overkill, you don't need a filter of that size. The Power, and the easy dissembly, the cartrages and the extra media holders for a custom mix of different media, from carbon to peat, and the bio-wheels that last for 3years. Hand down the best. The amazing low price's Amazons offers. These monster filters are like 50$. I thought the 400 model was 150$. It's worth that price. At petco two size E cartages sell for 13.99$ in Rhode Island. On Amazon, four Cartages sell for 8.99$ and If your smart enough to become a prime member, you will receive your order two days later free shipping.Next day delivery only 3.99$ Marine land Black-Diamond is the highest quality active carbon for sale. It's 3 dollars more than say Hagen carbon. But it last twice as long. The Emperor Filters come with great instructions, Bio-wheels and cartrages, cleaning brushes custom media holders and intake extensions for deeper water. I have owned a dozen Aquarium filters, used for Aquatic reptiles and freshwater fish. Old school air bubble filters to My favorite the Fluval FX-5 canister filter. The Emperor 400 will handle a 75gal tank. Id not hesitate to use one on a 30gal. For 50$ you can customize these babies for all Aquatic animals, and tank sizes. Marineland canaister filters are not the same quality as the Hang-on Emperor filters. There cheaply made I sent one back recently. I don't understand why the quality would not be upthere with there Emperior series? Eheim Canasters are rated the best. The fluval canasters are great. To replace the Media in the Green Machines will cost you 100$
